In this workshop, we turn to Inanna and one of the most powerful narratives of the ancient world, her descent. Drawing on photographs from my own fieldwork in museums and archaeological sites, including images rarely seen outside on-site research, we work closely with temple offerings, cuneiform inscriptions, and material connected to Inanna's cult across Mesopotamia, with special attention to the sanctuary at Nippur.
Together, we explore how ancient communities understood descent, power, loss, and return through Inanna's story, reading the texts and artifacts carefully and placing them back into their ritual and temple contexts.
Please note the REPLAY includes only the lecture portion of the workshop and not the LIVE discussion.
