The Artemis Triad: Artemis, Hecate, and Selene in Myth, Cult, and Sacred Landscape 11 Week Online Course Sundays 12:00 to 2:00 pm EDT Beginning September 27, 2026 For centuries, Artemis, Hecate, and Selene have been separated into different conversations. Artemis is remembered as the huntress, Hecate as the goddess of magic, and Selene as the moon. But ancient religion was rarely so neatly divided. Across the Greek world these three goddesses appear connected through sacred landscapes, epithets, rituals, iconography, sanctuary networks, and later religious traditions. Sometimes their identities remain distinct. Sometimes they overlap. Sometimes they become nearly inseparable. This course explores those relationships through archaeology rather than assumption. Over eleven weeks we will examine sanctuaries, inscriptions, ancient literature, sculpture, mystery religions, healing sanctuaries, lunar symbolism, and regional cults while asking one central question: Did the ancient world understand Artemis, Hecate, and Selene as a sacred triad? Drawing upon my own archaeological fieldwork throughout Greece and the Mediterranean, including photographs, museum collections, and site documentation gathered over many years, each class combines historical evidence with lively discussion.
